Have you ever tried to make “ramen noodles”? It’s an easy three step process to cook. Anyone who can read directions can make them. If you can’t read then it’s still feasible because they have pictures of the three steps to make it even easier than it already is. It is a very simple meal to make, so I thought it would be easy for me to make all by myself one. I had never cooked a meal all by myself before, so I was up for the challenge.
I was about 12 when I decide to face my hunger head on, and cook myself dinner. I grew up in a household were my parents did everything for me. They cooked dinner every night for me, but that night I wanted to be independent and make my own dinner. I thought I would pick something nice and easy to make, and “what’s easier than ramen noodles” I thought. So decided this would be a good first meal to cook, there is no way I could mess it up. I was wrong. I messed it up big time.
I gave the directions a quick read and thought it was easy enough to remember. I measured out 2 cups of water like it was now big deal, and poured it in to the pot. So far, so good. Then, I poured the noodles in too the pot, and add the seasoning. Then I turned on the stove. I thought I was doing a pretty good job for my first time cooking. I left the stove on for three minutes, stirring the noodle every now and then, like the directions said. After the three minutes were up it was time to taste my magnificent meal. I poured the noodles into a bowl, and I noticed that the water wasn’t hot at all, it was luke warm. I just thought that the people, that wrote the directions, timed it so perfectly that the noodles would ready to eat right away, and you didn’t have to wait for it to cool down. I was wrong. When I took my first sip I immediately spit it out. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. I've had ramen noodles before so I knew what it was supposed to taste like. What I had concocted tasted nothing like regular ramen.
I wondered what went wrong. I thought maybe it was the water, but no the water was fine. I couldn’t figure out what went wrong. After some time of deep thought I figured I check the direction to see if by some chance I had messed up. I quickly noticed I messed up big time. Instead of adding everything at once, I was supposed to boil the water first. Then add the noodles and cook for three minutes while stirring occasionally. Then after the three minutes remove the pot from the stove and then add the seasoning.
It was the first meal I had ever made myself. I was being independent and thought I knew how to do everything, but I didn’t. I should have read the directions more thoroughly. It is very important to read the directions, especially when it comes to cooking food.
